Late summer fun

Whether you’ve deliberately left it late to enjoy your summer break, maybe to take advantage of lower costs, or whether you were planning to go without but then changed your mind, a late summer break has many advantages, not least less crowds, and the lower costs we just mentioned.

So, where can you go without breaking the bank?

Idaho, Montana, Wyoming

If you fancy being at one with nature, experiencing jaw-dropping scenery, and love wildlife, then Idaho is a great place to head. Famous for the Old Faithful geyser and Yellowstone National Park, this is a place you can certainly take a lungful of fresh air. Yellowstone camping is a great holiday, with 1000 miles of hiking trails, countless types of wildlife including bears and moose. A great family holiday choice with a difference. Just remember that you’re unlikely to see Yogi Bear!

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Everyone loves a beach, and this one is simply stunning, with mile upon mile of sand to rest your weary head! You’ll also find charter fishing trips, shops, restaurants and entertainment options. Ripley’s Aquarium is also a popular place to head with the kids.

Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky

Mammoth Cave is the World’s longest cave system, and a late summer break here is a real adventure. Head off on an expedition into the limestone caverns with the help of a park ranger. You don’t have to be super-fit or energetic, as the caves are good for all abilities, provided you take your time.

Morro Bay, California

This is more than a beach holiday, making is a good choice again for families. Hearst Castle is nearby, a fantastic Natural History Museum and Morro Rock and Harbour. The beaches are sublime too, and it’s quite a bargain break.

Basically anywhere in Florida!

Come on, Florida is an all-year around destination, with fun and thrills for everyone, whether you’re a theme-park lover, a beach lover, or simply just want a break from the norm. Orlando, Clearwater, Daytona, or even down into the Florida Keys – the list is endless.

Take your pick!
